COURSE AIM
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to pedorthics, ideal for both newcomers to foot care and experienced healthcare professionals seeking specialization. It establishes a solid foundation in theoretical and practical aspects, covering foot anatomy, biomechanics, patient care and orthotic application. Students will learn to diagnose and manage foot pathologies, with a focus on diabetic foot care, using therapeutic footwear and orthotics.
COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Identify and describe the anatomical structures of the foot and lower limb within the context of pedorthic applications.
- Apply basic biomechanical principles to evaluate foot movements and alignments for effective assessment and intervention planning.
- Analyze different foot pathologies, especially diabetic foot complications, to determine appropriate pedorthic treatment options including footwear and orthoses.
- Critically evaluate patient cases to decide on the necessity and type of pedorthic intervention, considering individual patient factors.
- Develop and implement tailored patient education plans to communicate the benefits and maintenance of prescribed pedorthic solutions, ensuring patient adherence and optimal outcomes.
